Grand Finale at Cisalpina Classic Race 2024

Cisalpina Classic Race 2024: Victory for Mazzoleni-Gotti in a Triumph TR2 Sport and the Sangiovanni Brothers in a Ferrari 812 GTS*
Courmayeur (AO), September 4, 2024 –

The Cisalpina Classic Race, the prestigious regularity race for historic and modern grand touring cars held from August 29 to 31, 2024, concluded with great success. The event, part of the Italian Championship for Major Events with Modern Cars, attracted top-level teams ready to compete on a scenic route through the Aosta Valley Alps.

In the Classic category, the competition featured a thrilling head-to-head between some of the best regularity drivers in the country. The team of Sergio Mazzoleni and Silvia Gotti, driving a 1954 Triumph TR2 Sport, dominated the race from the first stage, successfully fending off challenges from Alessandro Virdis from Sassari with Silvia Giordo in a Porsche 356 pre-A and Maurizio Magnoni from Varese with Marisa Vanoni in a Porsche 356 type B Super 90. The third spot on the podium was claimed by the team from Lodi, Fabrizio Serri and Roberto Paradisi, in a 1928 Bugatti T40 Grand Sport. Thanks to their flawless performance, Mazzoleni and Gotti were awarded the MVP (Most Valuable Player) title for the 2024 edition.

Among the most applauded teams was the female duo of Vania Parolaro Fullin and experienced navigator Ornella Pietropaolo, who performed admirably in their 1996 Porsche 993 4S, once again showcasing their talent in such a prestigious competition.

In the GT Grand Turismo category, the spotlight was on the team from Lake Iseo, comprised of brothers Celestino and Oreste Sangiovanni, driving a Ferrari 812 GTS. With a series of top-notch timed performances, the Sangiovanni brothers managed to maintain the lead, holding off strong competitors like Fabrizio Macario and Giovanna Di Costanzo in a Ferrari 488 Pista, and Fabio Vergamini and Anna Maria Fabrizi in a Ferrari SF90. Notably, Giordano Mozzi and Marco Giusti, in a Ferrari 812 Superfast, staged an impressive comeback after a challenging start, finishing in second place.

The Legacy Cup, a new trophy dedicated to parent-child teams, also saw great success. The father-son duo of Gianluigi and Federico Smussi triumphed in this category, driving an Alfa Romeo Spider, and prevailed in an exciting competition among the four teams in the race.

The event's guests had the honor of hearing stories from three legendary figures in motorsport history: Emanuele Pirro, five-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and current president of the FIA Single-Seater Commission, Lello Venturini, and Mario Crugnola, prominent team managers from the '70s and 2000s. Their testimonials enriched the presentation dinner held on Thursday at the Royal Hotel’s restaurant in Courmayeur, attended by Alessandra Marcoz, owner of Taema, the only winery located in the center of Aosta, and Massimo Nale and Rossella Noussan of the Sicav 2000 Group, who presented their portfolio of automotive brands.

The awards ceremony took place in Courmayeur with the presence of Silvia Lugano, the Regional Minister for Tourism and Sport, while the Mayor of La Salle, Loris Salice, sent Deputy Mayor René Jacquemod for the official start.

Among the most significant moments was the presentation of the three partner trophies: the ACI Global trophy, awarded by Enrico Colombo, president of ACI Global, for the best times in the average speed trials on the Great St. Bernard Pass; the Sicav 2000 trophy, awarded by Roberto Crugnola, for the best times in the timed trials on the Colle San Carlo; and finally, the Taema trophy, awarded by Alessandra Marcoz, for the best times in the Etroubles trials.
